So many bills are unfortunately, and so many use politics as a whip and/or a crutch. I agree it works best when it's boring and out of the headlines. There's nothing in place to control the massive incentive of sensationalism=more votes. Nothing substantial to hold acts of bribery and usury to account. Our majoritarian electoral system means candidates only need to leave their "comfort zone" by 5-10% of undecided voters to win election. There is no incentive for candidates to represent the entire population. Because primaries result in the losing candidates voters to all flock to the nominee in the general, candidates only need a fraction of a fraction of the actual population to attain a position capable of setting their own salary and extracting profits from the rest of the population just as you say.

It's easy to get cynical, but we still have a few levers left to pull. We would do well to learn how they work and pull the everloving F out of them to reach level ground, and repair this runaway train. I want to see modernized incentives that serve 100% of people and nature. If the incentives are in place, we wont need such draconian overcorrections, red tape, red money. I hope to wake up one day and never think about the damn government ever again.
