If a human can do something to increase their power and/or decrease others' power, without sufficiently damaging their reputation, they will sadly often find some justification for it no matter the description of affected subjects/objects.

To counter the cynicism I have to tell myself the cravenous are a minority & the less-attached just dont seek positions of power as often.
